Framing The World Through My Photographs
At the beginning of the lecture I was asked a simple question.
What Is Camera- less Photography?
I answered , the use of a pin hole camera, a pinhole is something that can be made out of everyday objects such as shoe boxes and pringle tubes.
I was give more questions which were to be answered after the lecture.
What is a oxymoron?
A oxymoron is a word used to contradict ourselves for example the living dead.
Photograms are made in the darkroom where objects are placed on light sensitive paper and exposed to light.
Man Ray is probably the most recognised photographer to produce photographs , he wanted to call them Ray- O- Grams. Man Ray was a main contributor to the Dada and surrealist movement.

Joy Gregory is known for creating a series of photograms of flowers the series is called ‘The Language Of Flowers’, all of the photograms are made like cyanotypes, which give the image a blue tint.

Floris Neususs is a German photographer, who is probably the most interesting practioner of photograms. In the series ‘Be Right Back’ he uses large sheets of photographic paper and lays a nude model on top of the paper and then exposes the light above the paper, which makes for some interesting outcomes, as any part of the body closer to the paper is sharp and in focus and as the body get further from the paper the less sharp it becomes, as shown below.

Susan Derges– Land art, see video.
Doug Rickard- is known for his collection ‘The New America’ this collection of images have all been taken from google earth and google street view.See images below
Pavel Maria Smejkel – Smejkel is interested in social history and how different things would be be if these events didn’t happen. In the series ‘Fatescapes’ Smejkel re photographs places of well known photographs shot by other photographers such as Robert Capas – ‘Death Of A Loyalist Soldier’
In class task
In class we were spilt into smaller groups and asked to research further into a camera less photographer. My group was given Pavel Maria Smejkel.
Whilst researching Smejkel I came across a series called ‘Stars’, the series include photographs from the holocaust, but at closer look at the images I began to see famous faces, that had been added in using Photoshop. Unfortunately I couldn’t find an English version of the artist statement, but considering Smejkel like the what if factor, I questioned what if it had been these ‘stars’ had been in that situation.

Two of the three tasks
make a aesthetically pleasing photogram – which somes up something about your self
Make a collage about yourself using found imagry – which tells the audience about what you like to do in your spare time.
Using your photoshop skills and google earth make a digital A4 poster which maps your journey from home to collage and highlights 3 point on interest on route.
