Framing The World Through My Photographs

fmp – david campbell

David Campbell talks about the power and the responsibility  we have over narrative as storytellers, and whether we have the power to change with an image.

Using the well known quote from Robert Capa ” If your photos aren’t good enough, your not close enough.” Campbell turns this around by using Todd Papageorge’s re-phrasing of the quote, ” if your photos aren’t good enough, your not reading enough”. There is now the necessity for having an understanding of the context before the image is being recorded.

Campbell says that “the work that is most powerful, is the work that understands its own narrative”. If I am to create a body of work that has the purpose of informing others on a certain topic. It is important that I research and read around that topic before I construct the narrative, as without the research I can’t begin to inform correctly.
